<p>Par d?faut, VSTS notifie par mail diff?rents ?v?nements qui se produisent sur un projet. Par cons?quent, notre bo?te mail se retrouve vite satur?e de mail provenant de VSTS.</p>
<p>Certains de ces ?v?nements sont envoy?s par d?faut seulement ? la personne qui a d?clench? l’?v?nement.</p>
<p>Par exemple, suite au commit du code d’un d?veloppeur sur la branche de d?veloppement, l’?chec ou la r?ussite du build automatique (cas d’une int?gration continue) sera envoy? seulement ? ce d?veloppeur, par d?faut.</p>
<p>En connectant VSTS ? Teams, ces diff?rentes notifications peuvent ?tre partag?es ? l’ensemble de l’?quipe projet, sans encombrer les bo?tes mail de chacun.</p>

<h2>Getting the Fundamentals right</h2>
<p>Before we dive in to the setup and configurations of the DevOps process, we should have a clear understanding of what Continuos Integration (CI) is and what Continuous Delivery (CD) is.</p>
<p><strong>Continuous Integration (CI)</strong> is not a tool. It is a practice.</p>
<p><ul>
<li>It is a practice for integrating the work of all developers into a common codebase.</li>
<li>It involves running tests automatically when code is changed.</li>
<li>It also involves detecting broken build & tests in few seconds to keep process flowing.</li>
</ul>
</p>
<p><strong>Continuous Delivery (CD)</strong> is not a tool. It is a practice.</p>
<p><ul>
<li>It involves propagating changes from DEV to PROD.</li>
<li>It also involves propagating changes from PROD to DEV to keep orgs in sync.</li>
</ul>
</p>
<h2>Understanding the current Development Model</h2>
<p>As of today, Salesforce recommends two development models.</p>
<p><ol>
<li>Package Development Model</li>
<li>Org Development Model</li>
</ol>
</p>
<p>We need to set the deployment strategy in alignment with the development models.</p>
<p>In Package Development Model,</p>
<p><ul>
<li>Every artefact is bundled into a package and deployed separately</li>
<li>Package should be self-sufficient & isolated</li>
<li>Requires the organization to have adherence to architectural principles, existence of frameworks, horizontal & vertically sliced concerns addressed</li>
</ul>
</p>
<p>Even though Package Development Model appears close to what we want to have, do not force yourself into package development if your organizational practices are not package based. Package Development Model would vision to release features as a package which is vertically and horizontally sliced. Any impacts that occur would only happen in that package/app and it would not affect the other packages/apps. Getting to the package development model maturity itself is a huge effort on its own.</p>
<p>In Org Development Model,</p>
<p><ul>
<li>Artefacts are bundled as functionalities/features for deployment (like a changeset bundle)</li>
<li>Deployments are org based and not package based</li>
</ul>
</p>
<p>Org Development Model is a common development model that most organizations follow. Every feature developed would be bundled into a changeset and be deployed to an org. Post deployment, QA would do a smoke testing and a regression testing just to ensure nothing in the org is impacted.</p>
<p>Now, let?s define the problem statement.</p>
<blockquote><p>ABC Company uses Salesforce CRM for their business. They have a development team that develops functionalities as per business request in a Developer Sandbox. The team lead/team manager/deployment manager collects the list of items developed for each functionality from the developer, prepares changeset and deploys to QA Sandbox when it is ready for QA testing. After QA testing is pass, those functionalities are queued for PROD deployment which happens once every 2 weeks. The team lead/team manager/deployment manager again creates the changeset for PROD deployment and executes them every 2 weeks and initimates the organization stakeholders. For your information, they use <strong>Azure</strong> repositories for code management for their website development team.</p></blockquote>
<h3>Key items to consider for deployment strategy</h3>
<ul>
<li>It is clear that ABC company uses Org Development Model. So, we need to understand that anything related to package development model (even though it is fancy and attractive) should not be forced.</li>
<li>They already use Azure repositories for version control needs. So, it is worth using Azure repo for SF code management.</li>
<li>Azure has out of the box features for Devops which is called Azure DevOps services. This can be used as a tool for CI/CD.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Things that we need before we start the DevOps configurations</h3>
<ol>
<li>Salesforce Developer Org [if you don?t have one, signup and get a free personal dev org]</li>
<li>Developer Azure account [just go to dev.azure.com and register with your microsoft personal email address]</li>
<li>Salesforce CLI installed locally</li>
<li>Visual Studio Code installed locally with ?Salesforce Extension Pack? installed.</li>
<li>Git (either via npm or as installer)</li>
</ol>
<h2>Step 1: Certificates and Key</h2>
<p>The first step is to create a self signed certificate and private key that we need for configuring the DevOps process to authorize with Salesforce org.</p>
<blockquote><p>If your operating system is Windows, you have to install OpenSSL before you attempt these command. In linux, you don?t have to install anything. Just execute the commands.</p></blockquote>

<p>I've been doing some research on the Azure DevOps solution that Microsoft recently unveiled.</p>
<p>Some background, I've been using Jenkins for years, and recently started exploring the containerisation rabbit hole (Docker, Kubernetes, etc),</p>
<p>I'm unsure about some of the aspects of Azure DevOps Pipelines, and it'd be awesome to get some feedback and clarity.</p>
<ol>
<li>Is Azure DevOps now competing with Jenkins, where they previously supported the Jenkins community via open source plugins for Jenkins?</li>
<li>Is it possible for me to host Azure DevOps Pipelines completely on premise, not just agents?</li>
<li>Is it possible to use a self hosted git solution (like GitLab on-premise) with Azure DevOps Pipelines?</li>
</ol>
<h2>Longer version</h2>
<ol>
<li>Microsoft has developed various open-source plugins for Jenkins, such as the Azure App Service Jenkins plugin. There are many examples. To me it seems like the Azure DevOps (specifically Pipelines) solution is now competing directly with Jenkins, or am I missing something?</li>
<li>To me it seems that there is no way to host the Azure Pipelines solution on premise, or in a cloud provider of my choice. Yes, I can host my own agents where the bulk of the work is performed, but the actual execution of the pipeline logic happens on Microsoft's servers. And then I have to pay for parallel jobs. I'm comparing this to an on-premise (or cloud provider of choice) hosted Jenkins instance, where no payment is required, and no 3rd party is even aware that our pipelines are running. Am I missing something?</li>
<li>From what I can tell, Azure Pipelines has no support for self hosted repositories, I either put my code on GitHub or on Azure repos, nothing else. Thus, I can't even use this Pipelines solution if I have a privately hosted GitLab instance?</li>
</ol>

<p>I would love to get some clarity too maybe from a more authoritative source than myself (I'm sure I'm guilty of FUD too).</p>
<p>I've been looking to deploy to Azure using Kubernetes. I am similarly confused but I think that is because there isn't one clear path. I can't speak for Microsoft but their attitude to cloud seems to be they are happy to become "<em>all things to all men</em>". If you are using Azure, Microsoft don't seem to have a strong opinion on how you get there.</p>
<p>Microsoft are actively trying to evolve; e.g. Linux now dominates Azure</p>
<p>Clearly <strong>Azure DevOps</strong> deployment pipeline does exactly what Jenkins can do - so in that sense it is a competitor. There is also that slightly off-putting upfront Azure DevOps pricing for parallel pipelines.</p>
<p>On the one hand, Azure DevOps appears to be a re-branding of Visual Studio Team Services. So it will be familiar to people already within the traditional Microsoft development ecosystem. At the same time Microsoft are making great efforts to embrace technologies that are not traditionally Microsoft (Go, Java, Node.js, Python, Ruby, PHP etc).</p>
<p>It is early days - but it is not a surprise that Azure DevOps pipelines should prefer the Microsoft Git properties of Azure Repos and GitHub. In the same way that BitBucket pipelines prefers BitBucket and GitLab pipelines prefer GitLab.</p>
<p><strong><em>Meanwhile;</em></strong></p>
<p>The Azure Marketplace offers a Jenkins deployment that comes with Azure deployment plugins out of the box.</p>
<p>Many Jenkins plugins have been developed by the Azure DevOps team.</p>
<p><strong><em>in addition;</em></strong></p>
<p>Microsoft have put their backing behind Kubernetes related projects Helm and Draft. Helm is a package manager for Kubernetes. You can even use Helm to deploy a Jenkins installation into Kubernetes.</p>
<p>It would be interesting to see someone weigh up the benefits, costs and effort of running your own Jenkins in Azure verses using Azure DevOps pipelines.</p>
<p>. and then there is Jenkins-X.</p>
<p>So it would seem we have many options and decisions to make.</p>

<p>Nah, pada tulisan kali ini, kita akan mempelajari tentang dua contoh praktik DevOps, yaitu <em>Continuous Integration (CI)</em> dan <em>Continuous Deployment (CD)</em>.</p>
<p><em>Continuous Integration</em> atau integrasi berkelanjutan adalah salah satu praktik dari DevOps di mana kita sebagai <em>developer</em> bisa mengintegrasikan kode ke dalam repositori kode seperti GitHub dan menjalankan pengujian secara cepat dan otomatis.</p>
<p>Sedangkan <em>Continuous Deployment</em> atau penyebaran berkelanjutan merupakan praktik setelah kode berhasil terintegrasi, aplikasi kita bisa dibangun lalu rilis secara otomatis.</p>
<p>Nah di implementasi CI/CD kali ini kita akan menggunakan layanan dari Google Cloud. Semua layanan yang akan kita gunakan pun bersifat <em>serverless</em> alias kita tidak perlu menyediakan dan mengkonfigurasi server.</p>

<p>Honestly, VSTS private NuGet feeds will be a most blogged topic in this blog! I?ve already mentioned them at least twice. Here goes another post:</p>
<p>This time I?m building in VSTS Core application and the build literally goes:</p>
<p><ul>
<li>dotnet restore</li>
<li>dotnet build</li>
<li>dotnet test</li>
<li>dotnet publish</li>
</ul>

<p>And this worked really well for the basic application ? I had it set up in minutes and got the resuilt I was looking for.</p>
<p>But during the life of the application I needed NuGet packages from my private feed and dotnet restore had no idea about my private feeds.</p>
<p>Even if supplied with nuget.config file I was getting 401 Unauthenticated ? this is because I was not keeping my password(token) in this file.</p>
<p>Solution was to add this feed globally on the agent for every build. And this turned out to be easier than I thought.</p>
<p>In your build add a new task called Nuget Command :</p>

<p>When you configure this task give sources as Command parameter. And for arguments put this:</p>

<p>Replace the names accordingly. This adds a NuGet source to the agent. This $(System.AccessToken) is getting build variable that contains an access token ? it is generated for every build you run, so no need to keep it around in your build script or nuget.config .</p>
<p>To make the token available you need change the toggle in build Options: Change Allow scripts to access OAuth Token to Enabled :</p>

<p>This way when you run dotnet restore your private feed will be available and it will use OAuth token that authenticates with the private package feed.</p>

<p>Some time ago I wrote about how you could create your own local (private) NuGet server by simply putting your .nupkg files out on a server share to which you had access. But there?s a better way still!</p>
<p>As more than one of my readers commented, this isn?t optimal as not only does a <em>proper</em> NuGet server serve up packages, it also has indexing and searching optimizations to help it perform more efficiently when you?re looking for and pulling down packages from within Visual Studio.</p>
<p>With that in mind, I set out to see how easy it would be to create a NuGet server for myself in Azure.</p>
<p>The meat to doing this is pretty straightforward and present in the NuGet documentation. The interesting part is doing it in Azure, which is just a hop, skip, and a jump once you?ve got the site all set up in Visual Studio.</p>
<p>Come back when you?ve followed all those instructions.</p>
<p>Now that you have your NuGet website set up within VS, it?s time to push it to Azure. It really is amazing what they?ve done within VS to make this as painless as possible. I was pretty dumbfounded at first.</p>
<p>Right click your Web Application project and click ?Publish??</p>

<p>Next, choose ?Microsoft Azure Websites?</p>

<p>Pick something (available) for your site name and choose the Azure Subscription to which to tie it. You don?t need a database, so leave that as ?No database?</p>

<p>Click ?Create? and VS will talk to Azure and create the website for you, right on the spot.</p>

<p>As an added bonus, since Azure Websites gives everybody SSL certs, you get http<strong>s</strong> access to your server as well.</p>
<p>And that?s IT. You have a fully-functional NuGet server that you can push to, pull from, and utilize in your build processes. If you?ve set an API key on it, then only those who know the key can push to it. If you want, you can lock down access to be able to pull using any of the myriad IIS Web Site security methods by simply editing the web.config that?s in the site and re-publishing it. For instance, at my workplace we have done this and set the web.config to allow only IP addresses belonging to the public block assigned to our network. It?s secure <em>enough</em>.</p>
<p>The best part? Run this process again with a different website name and you?ve got a chocolatey server as well!</p>

<p>HashiCorp today announced it has updated the instance of Terraform it created to automate the configuration of virtual machines on the Microsoft Azure cloud to give IT teams more granular control.</p>

<p>Version 2.0. of Terraform (TF) AzureRM Provider will allow IT teams to separately configure virtual machines by type for instance of both Windows and Linux.</p>
<p>In addition, version 2.0 of TF AzureRM Provider will allow users to specify custom timeouts for resources. Previously, timeouts were set for one hour by default.</p>
<p>Finally, TF AzureRM Provider 2.0 removes resources, data sources and fields that have been deprecated. TF AzureRM Provider currently provides access to 374 resources and 119 data sources.</p>
<p>Amith Nair, vice president of product marketing for HashiCorp, said the goal is to provide IT teams with a set of tools for automating the configuration of virtual machines on Azure that is more accessible than the tools currently provided by Microsoft.</p>
<p>Nair said HashiCorp is seeing increased adoption of Microsoft Azure, which in turn creates demand for tools that make it easier to deploy virtual machines at scale. In fact, Nair notes that as more workloads move into the public cloud the less resistance there is to IT automation as administrators look for ways to manage IT at what is now unprecedented scale. Of course, many organizations gain their first experience with tools such as Terraform when they first embrace a set of best DevOps practices.</p>
<p>Less clear is how many virtual machines are being configured on top of instances of Windows versus Linux. There is no doubt Microsoft has emerged as the strongest challenger to the dominance of Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the public cloud. Much of that success, however, comes from the fact that Microsoft supports distributions of Linux alongside Windows Server on the Azure cloud. There are, of course, many organizations, such as Walmart, that prefer to standardize on Azure simply because they view Amazon to be a competitor. At the same time, however, there are many companies that employ both AWS and Azure.</p>
<p>Nair said most organizations that have adopted more than one cloud tend to manage them in isolation from one another. However, it is expected that one day more organizations will seek to unify the management of multiple clouds within the context of a truly hybrid cloud computing environment as the total cost of cloud computing continues to rise with each additional workload deployed. Naturally, many of those organizations eventually will gravitate toward tools that can be employed across multiple clouds.</p>
<p>In the meantime, whether it?s IT administrators or developers themselves configuring virtual machines in the cloud, it?s thanks to tools such as Terraform that the amount of time and effort required to set up virtual machines in the cloud is now as negligible as it is. The challenge now is not so much finding tools to automate IT as much as it is navigating all the cultural changes that naturally ensue.</p>
