<p><strong>Mike Kail</strong>: Ich w?rde sagen, dass die Container-Technologien eine Untermenge der Cloud-Infrastruktur ausmachen. Durch Container werden einerseits neue Architekturmuster f?r Anwendungen m?glich, andererseits wird die Agilit?t der Entwickler erh?ht. IT-F?hrungskr?fte, die sich gerade in einer DevOps-Transformation befinden, sollten definitiv pr?fen, inwiefern Container ihre Gesamtstrategie verbessern k?nnen.</p>

<p><strong>Eric Vanderburg</strong>: Container sind in DevOps-Szenarien in vielerlei Hinsicht n?tzlich. Sie k?nnen als abgeschlossene Einheiten betrachtet werden, die zusammengenommen das Endprodukt bilden. Die Aufgaben der Entwicklung und des Betriebs k?nnen einheitlich auf dieselben Container bezogen werden, wobei jeder Container eine ganz bestimmte Funktion erf?llt. Auf diese Weise ist es deutlich einfacher zu erkennen, wenn ein Container gewartet werden muss, was wiederum die Effizienz des Teams verbessert – eines der prim?ren Ziele von DevOps.</p>
<p><strong>Greg Bledsoe</strong>: Ich glaube nicht, dass Container ohne die von der DevOps-Bewegung angeregte Nachfrage nach fortschreitender Infrastruktur-Virtualisierung und schnellem Durchlauf von Code durch verschiedene Umgebungen existieren w?rden. Mich fasziniert, dass Docker und andere Container-Technologien im Grunde eine Idee erweitern, die von uns alten, graub?rtigen Sysadmins schon lange durch Dinge wie „chroot“ und dem Mapping von „uids“ verfolgt wurde: „root“ innerhalb eines chroot ist kein „echtes“ root f?r den Host.</p>

<p>Dann hatte jemand die geniale Idee, diese M?glichkeit zu systematisieren und die so entstandenen gekapselten Umgebungen schnell und auf garantiert unver?nderliche Weise transportierbar zu machen, v?llig abstrahiert von Netzwerk- und Umgebungseigenschaften. Mir wird sofort klar, dass eine Idee genial ist, wenn ich mich frage, warum mir das nicht zuerst eingefallen ist.</p>
<p>Selbstverst?ndlich bin ich ein gro?er Fan der Containerisierung, und ich denke, dass es ein wichtiger Teil der Zukunft von DevOps ist. Doch ist DevOps an dieser Stelle noch nicht am Ziel angekommen. Wir werden Serverless-Architekturen im Mainstream erleben, und auch Unikernels werden etwas sein, wor?ber wir uns in den n?chsten Jahren unterhalten werden.</p>
<p><strong>Jason Bloomberg:</strong> Docker und DevOps passen sicherlich gut zusammen. Aber vergessen wir nicht, dass die Denkweise von DevOps einer reinen Bottom-up-Mentalit?t entgegensteht. Die Wahl der Infrastruktur-Komponenten sollte nicht rein auf technischen Erw?gungen beruhen, sondern dynamisch und von der Technik abstrahiert erfolgen k?nnen. Im Vordergrund stehen nicht die Tools und Technologien, sondern die gesch?ftlichen Anforderungen und das Bed?rfnis nach einer gr??eren Agilit?t.</p>
<h3><strong>Was sind die typischen Anti-Patterns von DevOps?</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Eric Vanderburg:</strong> DevOps zielt nicht darauf ab, die Rollen von Entwickler und Operator in eine einzige zu verschmelzen. Das ist eines der gr??ten Missverst?ndnisse. Stattdessen geht es darum, eine bessere Zusammenarbeit zwischen diesen Rollen innerhalb eines kollaborativen Teams zu erm?glichen. Wenn Entwickler sich mit Aufgaben der System-Administratoren befassen – und Admins mit denen der Entwickler -, k?nnen bekannte Anti-Patterns im Team vermieden werden. So wird sichergestellt, dass Entwickler und Operator die selben Ziele verfolgen, anstatt sich gegenseitig als Konkurrenten zu betrachten – obgleich sie nat?rlich immer noch unterschiedliche Aufgaben im Team ?bernehmen.</p>
<p><strong>Mike Kail:</strong> Die wichtigsten Anti-Patterns sind meiner Meinung nach „DevOps ist eine Berufsbezeichnung“, „DevOps ist kein Prozess“ und „DevOps ist ein Allheilmittel“.</p>
<p><strong>Greg Bledsoe:</strong> Mein guter Freund und Mitarbeiter Keith Peas steckt viel Zeit in die Identifizierung von Design Patterns und Anti-Patterns von DevOps. Eines der h?ufigsten Probleme, die ich in der Praxis sehe, sind Jobbezeichnungen, die das Wort „DevOps“ beinhalten.</p>
<p>Au?erdem gibt es viele sogenannte „DevOps-Teams“, die isoliert von den ?brigen Teams arbeiten. Wenn sie das tun, arbeiten sie unter dem Missverst?ndnis, dass DevOps nicht f?r alle im Unternehmen gilt. Das untergr?bt den kollaborativen Kulturwandel und erschafft eigentlich nur ein neues Silo: Jeder macht sein eigenes Ding, liefert sein Ergebnis ab und wartet anschlie?end darauf, dass etwas zur?ck kommt. Das ist so ziemlich das Gegenteil von DevOps und erzeugt nur noch ein weiteres abgeschottetes Team, das neben den bereits existierenden steht.</p>
<p><strong>Jason Bloomberg:</strong> Das gef?hrlichste Anti-Pattern ist zu denken, dass DevOps sich nur auf Devs und Ops beschr?nkt!</p>
