Эдуард Кабринский - Travis devops - Eduard Kabrinskiy

Travis devops

[youtube]

Travis devops Latest breaking news Travis devops

Travis CI complains of 'significant abuse' of its free deal, creates new pricing that has developers riled

Open-source coders to get 'upgraded' to a trial plan that's not great

Travis CI, whose product is a continuous integration tool which can automatically test and deploy applications when new code is merged, has introduced new pricing plans in an effort to strike a better balance between free and paid-for subscriptions.

A banner on travis-ci.org, which describes itself as ?the home of open source testing,? states that ?testing your open source projects will always be free.? The idea at one time was that open source and commercial or private projects would be kept separate via .org and .com web sites, but recently the company informed users that travis-ci.org ?will be officially closed down completely on December 31st, 2020? ? now just two months away.

At the time, the Travis CI team said, ?open-source projects will be free as they always have,? but that migrating repositories from travis-ci.org to travis-ci.com is required.

Now the mood music is changing, with a post introducing a new pricing model. There are several changes. One is that macOS builds will be charged extra.

Now CI/CD can get a better piece of the Actions: GitHub expands automation service to build, test, deploy tools

?macOS builds need special care and attention,? said the Travis CI team, though we think that the price premium Apple commands for its hardware is likely to be a factor too. What this means is that macOS users ?will need to purchase add ons on top of (in addition to) their paid plans,? with 500 minutes of build time costing $15.00. Another change is that a new premium plan offers more than 10 concurrent builds, the previous limit.

Most significant though is the change for those building on public repositories with no paid subscription. ?We will upgrade you to our trial (free) plan with a 10K credit allotment (which allows around 1,000 minutes in a Linux environment,? the company said. ?When your credit allotment runs out - we?d love for you to consider which of our plans will meet your needs.?

There is still provision for additional free credits for open source developers, but this will be on a case by case basis. ?Should you want to apply for these credits please open a request with Travis CI support stating that you?d like to be considered for the OSS allotment,? said the post.

The problem, the company said, is that while it wants to support the open source community, ?recently we have encountered significant abuse of the intention of this offering. Abusers have been tying up our build queues and causing performance reductions for everyone.?

It is not clear what kind of ?abuse? this refers to, other than that free users were using more resources than the company wanted to give away. The use of open source has broadened since 2011, when Travis CI was founded.

The largest and most profitable corporations in the world now maintain open source projects, which perhaps suggests that the mere fact of a repository being public does not always imply that its owners need or deserve free CI tools. Other users are less than impressed.

How can one fuck up a great product like @travisci (that also had perfect timing could) so much. It became stale, engineers seemed detached and not a lot of good support for paying customers. Now that they are also killing open source builds I have a hard time seeing a future.

Travis CI was acquired by Idera in January 2019 and the new owners have no doubt also had an influence.

There are other options for developers, including GitHub which offers 2,000 free minutes of its Actions service per month for private repositories, and unlimited free minutes for public repositories. GitLab offers 400 CI/CD minutes free for any team, and also offers unlimited free access for ?qualifying open source projects.?

Docker is another company which is trying to limit free usage, and perhaps Travis CI?s move is another example of business reality requiring a rethink of overly generous free offers. ?

4 branching workflows for Git

Patrick Porto

Feb 27, 2018 В· 4 min read

In this article, we will cover the most popular branching workflows for Git users, so you can decide which fits better to your own development cycle.

Git Flow

The Git Flow is the most known workflow on this list. It was created by Vincent Driessen in 2010 and it is based in two main branches with infinite lifetime:

master ? this branch contains production code. All development code is merged into master in sometime.

develop ? this branch contains pre-production code. When the features are finished then they are merged into develop.

During the development cycle, a variety of supporting branches are used:

feature-* ? feature branches are used to develop new features for the upcoming releases. May branch off from develop and must merge into develop .

hotfix-* ? hotfix branches are necessary to act immediately upon an undesired status of master . May branch off from master and must merge into master and develop .

release-* ? release branches support preparation of a new production release. They allow many minor bug to be fixed and preparation of meta-data for a release. May branch off from develop and must merge into master and develop .

Advantages

Ensures a clean state of branches at any given moment in the life cycle of project

The branches naming follows a systematic pattern making it easier to comprehend

It has extensions and support on most used git tools

It is ideal when there it needs to be multiple version in production

Disadvantages

The Git history becomes unreadable

The master/develop split is considered redundant and makes the Continuous Delivery and the Continuos Integration harder

It isn?t recommended when it need to maintain single version in production

GitHub Flow

The GitHub Flow is a lightweight workflow. It was created by GitHub in 2011 and respects the following 6 principles:

Anything in the master branch is deployable

To work on something new, create a branch off from master and given a descriptively name(ie: new-oauth2-scopes )

Commit to that branch locally and regularly push your work to the same named branch on the server

When you need feedback or help, or you think the branch is ready for merging, open a pull request

After someone else has reviewed and signed off on the feature, you can merge it into master

Once it is merged and pushed to master , you can and should deploy immediately

Advantages

it is friendly for the Continuous Delivery and Continuous Integration

A simpler alternative to Git Flow

It is ideal when it needs to maintain single version in production

Disadvantages

The production code can become unstable most easily

Are not adequate when it needs the release plans

It doesn?t resolve anything about deploy, environments, releases, and issues

It isn?t recommended when multiple versions in production are needed

GitLab Flow

The GitLab Fl o w is a workflow created by GitLab in 2014. It combine feature-driven development and feature branches with issue tracking. The most difference between GitLab Flow and GitHub Flow are the environment branches having in GitLab Flow (e.g. staging and production ) because there will be a project that isn?t able to deploy to production every time you merge a feature branch (e.g. SaaS applications and Mobile Apps)

The GitLab Flow is based on 11 rules:

Use feature branches, no direct commits on master

Test all commits, not only ones on master

Run all the tests on all commits (if your tests run longer than 5 minutes have them run in parallel).

Perform code reviews before merges into master , not afterwards.

Deployments are automatic, based on branches or tags.

Tags are set by the user, not by CI.

Releases are based on tags.

Pushed commits are never rebased.

Everyone starts from master , and targets master.

Fix bugs in master first and release branches second.

Commit messages reflect intent.

Advantages

It defines how to make the Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery

The git history will be cleaner, less messy and more readable (see why devs prefers squash and merge, instead of only merging, on this article)

It is ideal when it needs to single version in production

Disadvantages

It is more complex that the GitHub Flow

It can become complex as Git Flow when it needs to maintain multiple version in production

One Flow

The One Flow is a proposed alternative in article GitFlow considered harmful by Adam Ruka, written in 2015. The main condition that needs to be satisfied in order to use OneFlow is that every new production release is based on the previous release. The most difference between One Flow and Git Flow that it not has develop branch.

Advantages

The git history will be cleaner, less messy and more readable (see why devs prefers squash and merge, instead of only merging, on this article)

It is flexible according to team decisions

It is ideal when it needs to single version in production

Disadvantages

It isn?t recommended for projects with Continuous Delivery or Continuous Deploy.

The feature branches make it harder the Continuos Integration

It isn?t recommended when it needs to maintain single version in production

Conclusion

So, these are some branching workflows most known and exists many others according to the team need. What is the workflow used in your team?

Pull request azure devops - Eduard Kabrinskiy

Pull request azure devops

[youtube]

Pull request azure devops International news Pull request azure devops

Use pull request decoration in Azure DevOps with SonarCloud

Some time ago I wrote about how to fail your Azure Pipeline, if your SonarQube quality gate fails. I often get the request how you can do the same thing with SonarCloud. But it?s much better to use pull request decoration. This is really an awesome feature. You get the SonarQube Errors directly in the pull request and the quality gate is evaluated.

The configuration is a bit tricky and the options are pretty hard to find. And this only works in SonarCloud or with the SonarQube Developer Edition! I switched completely to SonarCloud ? this is much more convenient.

I asume that you already have a build with the prepare, run and publish tasks configured. Note that there is a different extension for SonarCloud then for SonarQube. Add and configure the tasks accordingly and run the build with the analysis.

Now got to the project in SonarCloud. Go to ?Generell Settings?, ?Pull Requests?. Select VSTS and enter a Personal Access Token for Azure DevOps that SonarCloud uses to connect to Azure DevOps.

Now run the build again. If the analysis is complete got the the branch policy in your Azure Repo. If you now add a new Status Policy you will find in the drop down a policy called ?SonarCloud/quality gate?. Select it and save the policy.

That?s it! Now create a pull request and enjoy the SonarCloud decoration. The Status Policy will fail the PR if the SonarCloud Quality Gate fails.

Azure pipelines docker - Kabrinskiy Eduard

Azure pipelines docker

[youtube]

Azure pipelines docker Latest headlines Azure pipelines docker

CI/CD Docker Compose using Azure DevOps

I've been fighting a bit with some of the Azure DevOps pipeline tasks trying to configure end-to-end solution for one of my side project. It is based on a good old Docker Compose and I am pretty happy with how it works in production. What I wanted to do is schematically described down below.

What is Azure DevOps

Azure DevOps helps to plan smarter, collaborate better, and ship faster with a set of modern dev services. It's a end-to-end solution for any software development cycle. Anyone can use it even for free with some limitations/conditions of usage (public projects, limited pipeline minutes per month etc). And it's free unlimited git!

Multistage pipeline

If you are not familiar with multistage pipeline concept, have a look. In short, it brings all CI/CD experience into yaml , where you define all your stages (no UI.. ). It's been really big missing thing for a while since only build pipeline could be explain like this..

Let's break down the above into small parts and explain what was going on there. In the first stage Build_docker_containers there are two tasks: build image (it's actually three actions in one: build, tag and push) and publish pipeline artifact. Use this task in a pipeline to publish artifacts for the Azure Pipeline (note that publishing is NOT supported in release pipelines. It is supported in multi stage pipelines, build pipelines, and yaml pipelines). AZURE-CONTAINER-REGISTRY-NAME and AZURE-CONTAINER-REGISTRY-REPOSITORY-NAME both have to be changed accordingly. Note that a built image gets tag which is by default built-in Build.BuildId predefined variable which helps me properly roll out my app update on the second stage.

For the sake of simplicity this pipeline (stages) has been simplified.

The second stage is Deploy_to_production and it rolls out built image to my production server. All it's tasks are based on SSH deployment tasks. The SSH endpoint has to be configured first in service endpoints (there used to be some issues in new service endpoint experience with >2048 public keys in 2019, but Microsoft team has fixed this).

sed -i 's/##BUILD##/$(Build.BuildId)/g' docker-compose.yaml replaces build number, so docker-compose up -d 2> docker-compose.log brings something to update in docker-machine.

Docker and Docker Compose

I use docker for packaging an app and docker registry (Azure Container Registry). There is no problem to use dockerhub, just a corresponding endpoint has to be present in service endpoints. Compose helps me to combine multiple containers and define the logic between them and some other objects, as well as their behavior.

Docker compose for Azure DevOps

The following docker-compose.yaml is in my project.

Let's break down the above into small parts and explain what was going on there. There are two services (of course there are more, but for the sake of simplicity of this exercise there are only two). AZURE-CONTAINER-REGISTRY-NAME.azurecr.io/AZURE-CONTAINER-REGISTRY-REPOSITORY-NAME:##BUILD## has to be changes slightly except ##BUILD## which is being changed every pipeline execution.

Summary

Any feature or bug fix can be delivered to production in less than 6 minutes.

With 1800 free minutes of pipeline per month and 6 minutes of all my stages total duration I can do 300 cycles building and releasing my software.

In the same way it will guide How Mulesoft implemented with Devops.

RAML, the best and perfect Spec to Design your API with DevOps Online Training. Simple and easy to get it by technical client and Non-technical users. So, The RAML starts an overview of that sequence lists and so many API ways and accepts Developers to get and Implement tests in a graphical way of Mule Devops .

How Mulesoft Implemented with Devops :-

After the Design process completed, it tested. The RAML overview can send into Anypoint Studio. first of all Creating and generating skeleton flow to initiate exact Development of the API in to last Product. So, Making the work and decreasing the production Time. Another Additional value of Implementing RAML is its Destination Design that creates it simple. To read and Provides as part of API Documentation. As a matter of fact How Mulesoft implemented with Devops.

Mulesoft Mocking Services:-

Mulesoft is providing Mocking services that accepts Developers to start API Behavior. So, Before starting line of Code. This will exactly fix with the Devops Implementation as Developers that it can constantly examine and get the feedback from Non-moving clients. So,The total point is to get temporary Malfunctions and Design Issues. This can modified with Mulesoft Tool.

Devops depended on mutual Understanding, Operations and Development and Anypoint Exchange is the exact feature. Anypoint Exchange is exact part of Anypoint platform. By the guidance of any point Exchange, we can get control on Different assets in your organization. Another Once an API Designed and Moved, It can moved to Anypoint Exchange and supplied with an API Portal. Where other Developers can see at the Spec and they implement what they required to Design other Services and products. Similarly, it's How Mulesoft implemented with Devops.

Decreasing IT Gap:-

Anypoint studio software that Integrated Development Environment, where the Software put their efforts to Design the API once it Designed. Hence,The Studio empowers the Software Productivity. Why means it benefits one Graphical Dashboard for API, Saas, SOA and Data Integration.

It contains a one Graphical Environment that reduces the learning Curve. Developer can directly implement Integrations with Inbuilt Components like Connectors. So, This is very Big and it seemly Reduces the Development time and it Guides the rest of the Development group to understand the APIs behavior good by watching a Mules process in studio.

Continues Integration and continuous Delivery:-

Any-point Studio tightly integrated with MAVEN. Maven known as the popular Tool that Implemented in Devops. Almost It accepts Developers to automate Development works and Compilation Process.

M-unit,is the old testing Framework for Mule Applications and APIs that can be in the form of graphical and XML that everything is within the studio. Integrate testing methods in to their Inbuilt CI/CD methods. Hence it Decrease manual process by auto-generation Process. similarly, GitHub and Jenkins are other tools for Devops. GitHub operates with source script management. so many Developers can take control of script and work in same time. Jenkins will guide the automation of Non-human part of software update process. It aides with CD/CI methods. So, it automate the testing that was termed in Munit as well as the movement process. It is the Powerful tool for process of movement.

Finally, The main Goal is to guide Clients Implement Devops online course in a useful way with target of processing up the Implementation Process and Decreasing the IT Delivery Gap. finally, We are very happy to communicate that how you can like this method of trends and provide recommendations on your capacities. Finally all the above concepts explain How Mulesoft implemented with Devops.

Build Versioning in Azure DevOps Pipelines

Chetan Sarma

Dec 12, 2019 В· 6 min read

Introduction:

Versioning is one of the important aspects of software build and release cycles. There are different principles around versioning your changes, but the most commonly adopted system is Semantic Versioning also called SemVer.

In short semantic versioning, is denoted by X .Y.Z where X is the major version, Y is a minor version, and Z is the patch. You can read more about the semantic versioning here https://semver.org

Azure DevOps is a CI/CD platform by Microsoft. It is a pretty neat platform with a lot of out of box tools to automate your CI/CD pipelines.

The sc o pe of this article is restricted to application builds and versioning using Azure Pipelines YAML file. We will cover this article in two iterations. The first will be versioning PR and feature branch builds, and the second will be versioning a master branch. The idea is to version the master branch differently than PR and feature branch builds.

Before we dig into the main topic, some introduction to Azure DevOps pipelines.

By default, Azure DevOps will version your build with YYYYMMDD.Revision format.

For example, if we build the below azure-pipelines.yml file, the first build number will be 20191207 .1 and subsequent builds will be incremented as 20191207 .2, 20191207 .3 ? and henceforth.

Now, let?s add our custom versioning, for this purpose I have declared two properties variables and name. Variables property has major and minor variables declared (You can declare these variables globally using variable groups and linking the variable group name to the pipeline)and name property has the custom versioning format.

When we build the YAML, our build will be versioned with 1.1.1 (major_version.minor_version.patch format) and subsequent builds will have 1.1.2,1.1.3,1.1.4?

Building and versioning PR builds and feature branches

Feature Branch Versioning:

As developers start working on feature branches and raise PR?s to merge into the main branch, we need to make sure the code quality is maintained by the code review process and successful PR builds. So we have to define a versioning system for these builds. Again, a lot of this depends on your branching strategy, this is just a versioning example of the common flow of software development.

Let?s start by creating a new feature branch from master, let?s call it feature_branch_changes. In this branch, we will add the below lines to the azure-pipelines.yml file so that our feature branch is versioned differently.

We have created a stage called Build_Branch_Version_Number, in which we have declared a condition that allows this stage to be run only if the branch is not master. Also, we have declared major and minor variables to 2 and 0.

If the branch is not master, it declares a variable called brpatch which uses a counter expression.

Counter expression in Azure DevOps: A counter expression increments the seed value based on its prefix value. Below, the seed value starts with 0, and the prefix value is variable minor i.e 1. Each run of the pipeline will increment its seed value. If we change the minor variable value to 2, the seed value resets to 0 as the prefix has changed. For more information visit: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ ... ps#counter

syntax: $[counter(variables[?prefix?], seed)]

In a similar way, we will use build.sourcebranchname as prefix and start our seed value with 0, so for each run of the pipeline, the value of variable brpatch will increment as 0,1,2?

As the next step, we will use Azure DevOps?s build.updatebuildnumber function to update the version of the running pipeline. This function will only run when the build.reason is not equal to Pull Request.

When we build the feature_branch_changes, we should see build number 2 .0-feature_branch_changes.0. All subsequent builds of the feature_branch_changes branch will be incremented like 2 .0-feature_branch_changes.1,2,3?n
